 National Mentoring Month

National Mentoring Month: Make a Difference

National Mentoring Month is a campaign launched in 2002, which aims to unify and expand the mentoring movement, celebrate the power of relationships, and raise awareness around the importance of youth mentoring in the United States. But we like this so much, we are going to celebrate National Mentoring Month too.

The Role of Mentoring in Our Programmes

Mentoring is a key part of the apprenticeship programmes that we run, and our professional qualifications tutors also mentor students. It is a vital element in your personal and professional development, and whether it is formal or informal, mentoring and your mentors make you who you are.

Take a Moment to Appreciate Your Mentors

So, take a minute to think about your mentors and perhaps thank them for their help and support. You may also consider, as part of your New Year resolutions, finding a new mentor to help you in your next steps on your career path. Alternatively, or even in addition, you may want to become a mentor yourself. There are formal programmes run by most professional bodies and external organisations, or you may just want to do something informally with colleagues and friends.

Giving Back Through Mentoring

I also mentor youths by volunteering for LTSB, an organisation that prepares and places young people who face disadvantage into meaningful careers with major firms.

Our Commitment to Mentoring at Professional Academy

Here at Professional Academy, we also mentor each other, and our resolution this year is to do more of it with formal Continuous Professional Development (CPD) sessions throughout the year.

I hope this has inspired you to get involved in mentoring and celebrate National Mentoring Month.
