New Year, New Career: Steps to Achieve Your Goals

The New Year is always a time when we take stock and ask what the next twelve months (and beyond) will bring. Sometimes we are happy and content with our lives, and sometimes we feel there could be more. So, this year, if you are asking what more there could be, then here are some thoughts on how you can seek out some answers and embark on your New Year, New Career journey.

1. If it is a new career, then start with what you like about your current work and what transferable skills you have that can help narrow down a possible future path. Alternatively, think about what skills you need to get where you want to go.

2. If you want to ‘get on’ in your current career, then look at what skills and/or knowledge gaps you have. Think about how you can fill those gaps formally (with learning) or informally (with a mentor).

3. It can be a scary thought, but hopefully also exciting, as you take the first steps towards a new career. But make sure you have the right support – family, friends, and even current work colleagues can be a great source of ideas and encouragement.

4. My main piece of advice is never, ever stop learning. You may say that I would say that, but it’s true. Every day I try to learn something new. There is always more to learn about our jobs, organizations, our industries, and ourselves.

How can professional Academy help you?

Here at Professional Academy, we offer a wide range of learning in three disciplines with great transferable skills: Marketing, Sales, and Leadership & Management. So, you can just dip your toe in the learning waters and do a short course or fully immerse yourself in a professional qualification or apprenticeship.

Everyone’s journey is different, but it always starts with the first step.

So, if you are thinking about a New Year, New Career path, get in touch and let’s see what opportunities you can take advantage of. And, if you do embark on a new career or learning path, then I wish you all the very best.
