The first sales job I got was selling new cars (please don’t hold that against me!). I had a great boss, one of the best in my working life actually, who coached and taught me what to do from the very basics of selling, to the little more complex art of negotiating and closing business.
I love selling and the thing I love the most, is offering somebody something that they need or want, to make their life better. I consider the art of selling to that of being a problem solver. We solve people’s problems by providing a product or service that will HELP them.
After my time selling cars I moved into the food industry, selling household branded food products to chefs in all sorts of catering establishments. I was promoted to regional sales manager and then progressed to National Sales Manager when I moved to a very well-known tea manufacturer.
Two highlights of my career are…
The beauty of sales is you can create your own path of success, you deal with people every day of the week which I love, it is very varied and if you like interacting with people, you’ll take to it just like I did.
